Looking for another reason to root against the Patriots today? KC's quarterback, Pat Mahomes, whose dad was a major league pitcher of the same name pitched for the Pirates in 2003: a 4.84 era in nine games. Pat went 0-1 in 22.1 innings; nine games with one start. Overall, the father went 42-39 in a career that stretched from 1992-2003;. He did not play in the major after 2003, but played in AAA in 2006 and 2007. The dad is only 48 years old. He played in Japan in 1997 and 1998.

Mahomes was a AAAA pitcher. Career ERA 5.47, 1.594 WHIP, 5.0 BB/9, 5.7 K/9. Spent time with 6 teams in his 11 year MLB career, 7 of which were divided between majors and minors. But it looks like his son is going to have a nice career as an elite QB and is a lot of un to watch. I always root for him as long as he doesn't play against the Steelers.

I wouldn't call him AAAA. He had an 11 year mlb career plus 2 years with the Yokahama Bay Stars in 1997-98. I would call him a classic journeyman. He didn't start pitching until his senior year in high school. He's collecting a nice mlb pension right now. Brad Eldred, now he is a AAAA player....like Crash Davis!

We can agree to disagree. In 7 of his 11 MLB seasons, he spent time in the minors. Always had control problems, had an ERA of 5+ in 7 of 11 seasons and only 2 seasons with ERA below 4.73. But he did have an uncharacteristic 1999 when he went 8-0 in relief with a 3.68 ERA. and just 44 hits in 64 innings. Good for him! Eldred was ceretainly a AAAA player. But I think Mahomes was also one but being a pitcher he kept getting more chances.

He won 42 games and was over.500. AAAA pitchers don't win more than 10 or 12 games. A classic journeyman.

he threw 61 innings in majors at age of 21, hard to imagine any Pirates doing this in recent years. Pirate farmhands ususally don't make it to AA that young.

his 8-0 year in 1999 was certainly an outlier.
