FAN's Eric Hagman interview with Bob Nutting

Hagman interviewed Nutting a couple of days ago.

Not a whole lot there, but he doesn't seem too concerned that attendance has dropped by half over the last couple of years.

Interesting article in the Trib about Nutting's spin on things.

https://triblive.com/sports/kevin-gorma ... s-payroll/

A few highlights:

Spend an hour asking Bob Nutting questions and the first thing baseball fans want to know is whether even the Pittsburgh Pirates chairman believes his own bull.

The answer is an unapologetic yes.

Nutting puts a politician’s spin on his ownership, with evasive answers that tend to infuriate a frustrated fan base, yet he continues to promise to win a World Series to a city that will celebrate this summer the 40th anniversary of its last baseball championship team.

I believe Nutting is sincere in his hope to win a World Series, but hope isn’t a method. The Pirates aren’t willing to pay for what they are promising, as Nutting made it clear that spending more on payroll isn’t in their plans.

Seems like fans have now tuned Nutting out. He says what he says and we've become so used to the BS that we don't even get mad anymore. He didn't appear at Piratefest this year and he was at Pirate City for the camp opening but decided not to speak to the players this year. He knows it's BS. We know it's BS. He knows that we know it's BS. We know that he knows that we know it's BS. So he just gives a couple obligatory interviews to deflect the perception that he's hiding. And then he goes off and counts his profits and pats himself on the back for running a successful enterprise. But I think, as fans, we've become accustomed to this way of seeing the Pirates operated. It's sad, but that's just how things are. :(
