According to one report the Pirates are showing a strong interest in shortstop Freddy Galvis.

Not much better hitter than Hechavarria, and not as good defensively. I'd prefer Hech.

With shortstops like, Hechevarria, Galvis, Jose Iglesias and Asdrubal Cabrera still on the open free agent market,it appears the Pirates may be waiting for their demands to drop and then sign one of them as their everyday shortstop. Spring Training will begin in about one month and the majority of teams are set at the shortstop position, I would believe the Pirates can sign one of them over the next couple weeks.

I agree with fjk## on this. I get the sense they don't care so much which one, whoever's price drops to what they want, and they're not in any hurry.

I just saw that Cabrera has signed with the Rangers so the Bucs are down to 3 choices for shortstop.

Glad that Cabrera is no longer in the running for the Bucs. He is not strong defensively.

Still hoping for a reunion with Hechevaria.

I would be happy with him, Galvis or Iglesias, and I hope they do something soon before all 3 are off the board. It sure is frustrating to see other teams making moves while the Pirates sit tight.

I am not convinced the Bucs think they need to make a move. It could be they are satisfied with Newman and Gonzalez.

If they are, they still need to make other moves to improve the team. In my view the entire infield is a big question mark as far as figuring out how they will do in 2019. Everybody needs to improve quite a bit over last year to turn this into even an average infield (Frazier may be an exception).

This drives me nuts. This team is so average, or below average, defensively, it would be fantastic -- and NEEDED -- to sign an elite glove at SS, even if he hits .250.

I'd still prefer Hechevarria but there are a handful of good ones still out there.

Of course, as I've said many times before, our Buccos are very happy with their "internal options."
