Bring a Libertarian type of person, I don’t generally tell people what to do. But I’ve been thinking about the state of the organization this week including attendance.

Coming home after winning 7 on the last road trip, being a Pittsburgh-type team; and with Josh Bell theatening to rewrite history books - I was truly disappointed with the sparce attendance. It has to discourage the players who must feel the city could not care less. It has to make Pittsburgh look like a very poor baseball town to all other baseball fans (no one out there cares about Nutting). And dad’s and kids and everybody is missing a crazy season with a player the likes of which has not been seen in Pittsburgh in 50 years.

Cutch was a great player, but there is no contest between the sheer anticipation of Josh coming to the plate. I was at PNC when Garrett Jones hit the river. It was a stunning accomplishment, didn’t know how many of those I’d see in a lifetime. I’ve now seen two already this season. And those shots are exceeded by the batters eye blast! Every shot seems like they are in an entirely different category than other pkayer’s HRs.

Starting tonight, I hope Pittsburgh fans forget about Nutting and go out and help this team, go out and experience fun baseball, go out and put pressure on the organization to respond.

Over the next couple years, Bell May be THE GUY to carry this team to a championship. I don’t want to give Nutting any excuse: if the fans show up and he does nothing, the whole world will know.

Let’s go pittsburgh - let’s get behind and into this team! Let’s fill PNC!

But that's already happened. After the record attendance year of 2015 when fans turned out as never before for the competitive 98 win team, Happ was replaced by Vogelsong, Alvarez was replaced by Jaso and Walker was traded for Niese. Fans no longer have any reason to trust Nutting. Nutting does not reward fan support by using the increased revenue to give the fans a better product. I think the distrust factor is strong. I don't urge fans to stay away but I understand why many do. 3 games over .500 is nice under the circumstances, considering all the injuries with 30% of the games in the books. But I think most fans are skeptical that the team will sustain success in the other 70% of the season. If that happens, I think fans will turn out in high numbers to enjoy a legit pennant race. But Nutting has earned the distrust and skepticism of the fans.

VA, I agree. Knowing you personally I know that you love baseball right from the bottom of your heart. Win or lose you stick with them, root for them and get to see some interesting if not winning games.

I am not getting down on Bobster because he has a different view based upon experiences meeting with the players, FO, HOFer and he is a realist holding Nutting's arse to the fire. Where I disagree with him is that fans should not stay away from the best game in the world, baseball. I will not go to many games this season as you know due to my health problems but I will make a few. 61 yrs and counting.

Possum, I didn't say that fans should stay away. What I said was "I don't urge fans to stay away but I understand why many do."

I'm coming to Pittsburgh for the two game series with the Tigers in mid-June. Bringing my parents. I'm a millennial, and they're in their early 60s. I've been to 17 games in PNC (Bucs are 10-7 in them). But my mom and dad have never seen a game there. My mom doesn't really care, but my dad is sort of a closet Pirates fan. I'm hoping they have a good experience. That said, I tend to agree with Bobster. The disgraceful way in which this team is run would keep me away if I lived in Pittsburgh. I might make it to four or five games a year, but nothing more. The owner of this team is a disgrace and the commissioner and other 29 owners ought to be embarrassed by the way he runs this team. It's in their best interest to have a competitive product. Starting Michael Feliz is not fielding a competitive product.

I find the lack of people at the stadium demoralizing.

I live in Boston and I'm raising my eight-year-old son as a Pirates fan, and even he notices. I tell him they're mad that the Pirates traded McCutchen. He says: Still???

At the same time, it totally pisses me off that the FO didn't recognize the need to make some kind of splash in free agency as a good faith move. Didn't have to be Machado. Could have been Gio Gonzales or Moustakas. Instead they did nothing, more or less, and tonight's starter is the result.

Nonetheless we'll be at a game in August when I visit town.

Hair or not, I still think Possum would have made an excellent president of the United States.

I worry about the kids.

What I’ve cone to know is that MANY dads would rather punish Bob Nutting than take their kids out to the game.  There is nothing that can replace summers following a team and going out to the game.  Nutting - he might destroy the Pirates but he’s not going to steal my relationship with my son (he’s in college now, but he gets home tonight; the ONE THING he told me he missed more than anything else - going to games at PNC with me.  As the commercial says: priceless).

It’s all very sad.
