Tallion to undergo elbow surgery. Out 7 - 9 months. Optimistic return date in May.

As noted in the story, better news than Tommy John surgery, but still not good news.

I fear that Taillon will never reach the level that was expected of a First Round #2 pick. In fact I think his career will only be going downhill from here.

IMHO, the problem career wise is that next year he'll be 28, will get a late start on the season and will still have had only 1 full season in MLB. I don't think we should expect him to be dominating next year. At best, we might see Taillon at his best in 2021. He's a free agent in 2023. So he would be traded in 2022. So best case scenario might be that we see a partial season from him at his peak in 2022 before being traded. He can sign a FA contract in 2023 and pitch for years into his 30s as the pitcher we envisioned when he was drafted. It just won't be for the Pirates.

I bet the Pirates look at this like he'll start at least 25 games next year, Kuhl is coming back, Archer will be at least okay, and with Williams and Keller the 5 man rotation is set. Stratton is there to fill in if needed. Then they'll say something like starting rotation will be a strength.

He may never be an effective starter for the Pirates again. 2021 prob realistic for effectiveness, if it comes back at all. If it does come back, he's gone in 22' because he'll be in his 70% arb year and a FA in 23'.      Another one turns to dust.

We trade Cole and get crushed on the return and Taillon can never have a healthy season at any level.

My goodness, how much HYPE did those two names have?   years and years.  "Cole" Taillon"   Cole Taillon.  Oh just wait, we have cole coming.. Taillon is recovering he's ready he's a true #1"

On and on and on for years.

We have Musgrove and Moran to show for Cole and Taillon through 2020 season.  Possibly forever, if Taillon can't come back, yet again, from a major injury.

Even if you don't think it's his fault, You have to fire NH for bad luck alone.  Just alone, all this bad luck.   "We know it's not your fault, but you've got the death touch brah.  Bye"

I would definitely not bet against you on that. At best, they will bring in another reclamation project.

Somehow I forgot Musgrove. Feeling better already!
