Baseball doesn't care about the Pirates and the Pirates don't care about me. Why should I continue to invest my time and my heart in any of it?

Ray...

People will come, Ray.

They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom.

They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it.

They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past.

"Of course, we won't mind if you look around," you'll say. "It's only $20 per person."

They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it,

for it is money they have and peace they lack.

And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon.

They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines,

where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes.

And they'll watch the game, and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters.

The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces.

People will come, Ray.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball.

America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers.

It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again.

But baseball has marked the time.

This field, this game; it's a part of our past, Ray.

It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.

Oh…people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come.

It’s hard to add to that, but — because you can’t help yourself. It isn’t a choice you can make or you would have made it long ago. It’s in the fabric of your being.

I sure wish it wasn't part of the fabric of my being.

Baseball has been a part of my family for generations. My grandad, Dad, now my son and grandsons. I still remember sitting at the table with my Dad , and him telling me about the Waner brothers, Pie Traynor, and Arky Vaughn. Once you get entrenched with baseball, that love of the game won’t go away.

Reminds me of the movie Fever Pitch when the kid asks Ben (Jimmy Fallon) “You love the Red Sox; but have they ever loved you back?

I wish MLB would contract the team.    Buy Nutting out,  and move it somewhere else.

Monterrey, Mx

Mexico City

Charlotte

Anywhere but Pittsburgh.  Open a AAA club to play ball at PNC until a new ownership group can come together again in a few years and start over

Cleveland is two hours away.   Thats close enough that if there weren't an MLB team here, people would hook up with the tribe. Ask people in Altoona if 2 hour drive is too far away for them to be Pirates fans.

Especially if Cleveland's TV deal would get them into the Pittsburgh market after the Pirates leave town. Guaranteed fanbase increase.
