Watching the game tonight I saw another example of Cora's poor 3B coaching. With Reyes at 2B with 1 out in the 2nd, Gonzalez singled to LF. Reyes was arriving at 3B at the same time Schwarber was picking the ball up in shallow LF after charging it. Cora had his head down while signaling all the way for Reyes to go home. Cora was not even looking at Schwarber as he was picking the ball up. So Schwarber fired home at the same time Reyes was rounding 3B. The catcher had the ball waiting to tag Reyes out about 6 feet up the line. Cora had apparently decided he was sending Reyes no matter what so he didn't need to see if Schwarber already had the ball or not. So instead of runners at the corners and 1 out, it was 2 outs and 1 runner on base. They failed to score. Terrible coaching.

Isn't over aggressive base running one of the reasons the Bucs let go of Sofield?

I believe so. He also nearly had Osuna out by several feet at the plate but this time the catcher didn't hold onto the ball. At the MLB level you can't just automatically send runners and hope the other team messes up what should be a routine out. It was pretty disturbing that he wasn't even looking at Schwarber fielding the ball when he sent Reyes who had no chance.

I guess he isn't going to be "promoted" to manager either.

I remember in softball being sent by third base coach and was doa at third. At least he apologized and said he didn't know right fielder had a good arm.

I did make a nice slide to try and knock over the third baseman.

Cora has made many poor calls however in this case Schwarber has a poor arm and usually not accurate. Count it up as even a blind squirrel can make a decent throw home once in a while

I know Schwarber is poor defensively but Cora can't be making the decision to send the runner without even looking. Schwarber now has 7 OF assists this year. By comparison, Marte has 8 and no other Pirate OF has more than 5. So it was far from an automatic send and the result probably cost a run. And Cora has been poor all season.
