Thats unfortunate. I liked Markel and would have liked to see him spend a year in AAA to season. He had good stuff

Markel is 29 and finally made his MLB debut in 2019 after 10 years in the minors. His rookie year was awful as his combined totals for Seattle and the Pirates was a 7.77 ERA and 17 BBs in 22 innings. A SSS to be sure but that terrible performance in his first MLB season is indicative of the fact that it took him 10 years to get there.

They might still sign him to a minor league deal.
