40-Man Roster Day Today

This is the day the 40-man roster is to be set. I doubt BC has had time to evaluate anything about the minor-league candidates (although in his previous job I assume he was attuned at least somewhat to what was going on in that area). I wonder what criteria they will use to decide who to add, or will they go mostly with what the (now former) acting GM has to say.

Kevin Graves, I assume will have a lot of input as to who gets added today, and who will get removed off the roster. I think it is probably a no brainer to add Hayes, Cruz and Will Craig. I am sure Cherington has had discussions with Graves and possibly a few others from the FO for information on players to add, and to remove in order to make space on the roster.

Vazquez has to be one to come off, doesn't he? I mean, if 21 of the most vile felony charges imaginable aren't enough to get you released, I don't know what is. I can't envision a scenario where the union tries to actually get the Pirates to pay him this year.

Vazquez is not currently on the 40 man. I assume that's because he is still on administrative leave.

It's a dangerous time. In 1985, Joe Brown came back as interim GM during the season, and Syd Thrift replaced him in November. Bobby Bonilla and Bip Roberts slipped through the cracks and were lost in the Rule 5 draft, and we had to deal Jose DeLeon to get Bonilla back.

Yeah I haven't looked but imagine he's on the Restricted List.

I think they roster Hayes, Craig, and Oneil Cruz. My guess is that DuRapau, Sammy Howard, Williams Jerez, Yacksel Rios, go. That would leave one spot open for a Rule 5 selection.

I won't complain if they take Neverauskas off the 40-man. I might complain if they don't.

Might be a good choice to have 2 spots open. Just might be some names available that would certainly be of help without losing much in the 2 that maybe claimed!

I would not object to that.  Looking at the 40 man on the Pirates Official Website they only have 39 guys on it.  So that automatically makes your idea viable without taking someone else of the roster.
