After a couple week hiatus, I am thinking we might here something regarding a player announcement tomorrow. We are about 5 weeks until pitchers and catchers report, and I just think there will be some Pirates player activity between now and the beginning of ST.

It would be nice to have something concrete so we can get a sense of how this management team will operate. Most teams pretty much shut down over the holidays, so it wasn't surprising they didn't do anything the last two weeks, but it is time now to start getting things in order for Spring.

Another day with no player personnel announcement. Many teams have added free agents, and even minor league free agents, but in the past two weeks there has been nothing regarding the Pirates.

I believe the article is accurate. This is a team on a rebuild with a new mgt team that wants to see what it has and who can be further developed while maintaining the low payroll the owner insists upon. It's not a team currently looking to add free agents or trade for established veterans just to try to win 75 games instead of 70. BC is inheriting a roster and farm system that has been previously overrated with many disappointments in player development. He can't make assumptions based on scouting reports and feel like he knows enough about what he has to also know what he needs. Even potential trades of Marte and/or Frazier are most likely to bring only prospects. I think the type of moves a lot of fans are hoping for at this time could be made next year when they feel confident enough in what they have to make moves to supplement the roster with some upgrades.

There is no real reason to do much that is for purpose of only improving team for 2020. Focus has to be on 2021 and beyond. Ben C. will get a pass for 2020 as no one is going to expect him to turn team into a winner this season. The Bucs should add as many promotions as possible (has any team had a promotion every game?) to attract fans.

One thing that's concerning me is that there's still just four NRI's (no catchers) listed on the website. You would think Cherington would have a bunch of guys in mind from his previous organizations and scouting. And there's obviously opportunity here, everywhere on the field. They do tend to announce these signings in groups, so maybe they'll announce ten signings at one time, but right now I'm a little antsy to see something.
