mlbtr has their estimate up for Josh Bell's arb number. 5MM.

I think mlb is going back to a less active baseball next season so I don't see him hitting as many homeruns. On the other hand, I'm sure Boris knows why he should get whatever number he thinks is appropriate.

Friday is the day teams and players exchange salary amounts. The Bucs have 8 players in this category. Hopefully most if not all can come to a salary agreement without going through an arbitration hearing.

Only Musgrove, Frazier and Kela have not yet agreed to contracts of the 8 players eligible for arbitration. Hopefully they sign their contracts soon and avoid a hearing.

Josh Bell – $5,900,000

Joe Musgrove – $3,400,000

Keone Kela – $3,400,000

Adam Frazier – $3,200,000

Trevor Williams – $3,000,000

Jameson Taillon – $2,300,000

Chad Kuhl – $1,400,000

Michael Feliz – $1,200,000

Forget health for just a moment, I wonder how much money Taillon's various health issues has cost him in arb.

edit, i was wrong, those were the estimates not the real amount. Bell 4.8.

I believe they saved some money on the 5 players they signed so far. Each agreed to an amount less than the projected salary.

Musgrove has signed for 2.8 million which is 600,000 less than the estimated amount. Only Frazier and Kela who have not yet agreed to contracts.

Mookie Betts and the Red Sox just signed a one year, $27 million deal to avoid arbitration.

It won't affect Bell's number this year, but I wonder how it affects internal discussions about trading him before he gets too "expensive" for Nutting's checkbook.

I am getting to the point where it might be best to keep the player through the 3 arbitration years, and then let him walk. We traded Cole with two years remaining, and then in the summer of 2018 we traded for Archer which cost us 3 young players. Would it have been more beneficial to have retained Cole and let him walk, and still have the 3 young players which we sent to Tampa in our System?

Kela and Frazier have also signed contracts, so the Bucs avoided hearings for all 8 players.
