Now that the arbitration contract day has passed the Pirates should begin to look at available free agent pitchers. A couple pitchers who have had success, but recently had some injuries are Taijuan Walker and Alex Wood. If healthy they would be good pitchers to sign to incentive type contracts, and if they are successful they could possibly trade them at the July trade deadline.

I wouldn’t mind bringing in Alex Wood he would be a solid lefty to add to the rotation. I’d like to see the Pirates maybe try and sign Ivan Nova back as well. He is still out there and had a good year last season with the White Sox and can definitely help this rotation out. Going into the year with a rotation of Musgrove, Williams, Archer, Keller and adding both Wood and Nova into the mix would at least help stabilize things by adding some quality experience and guys who know how to pitch. They both wouldn’t costs a lot and should definitely be looked at.

Forget about signing Wood, he has signed with the Dodgers according to MLB Trade Rumors.
