The Pirates first 31 games from March 26th until April 30th are absolutely brutal taking a quick glance at it. Now 28 of those first 31 games consist of 10 games against the Cubs, 6 against the Dodgers, and 3 games each against the Rays,Reds,D’Backs, and Brewers. The only soft part of the schedule is a 3 game weekend in series in Baltimore the 2nd week in April. So things have the potential looking at these games on paper to get very very ugly. So we are gonna find out in a hurry a lot about Derek Shelton and how he can handle things based on this tough schedule he has staring him in the face to start the season. I don’t expect the Pirates to win many games this year but seeing this late March and April schedule it could have this team truly out of it come May 1st.

A 9-22 start should do away with any notion of 'competing'.

What part of the schedule will not be brutal for a team all the others expect to beat?

The best time to face a good team is early, before it has a chance to settle into a solid rhythm.

When you have minor leaguers playing against the other teams major leaguers, all games are brutal.

wait until more major leaguers are dealt. This is a great year for the Pirates to have a lot of promotions and keep fans distracted.
Maybe half a John Russell appreciation night.

It is a tough schedule, but if they could squeeze out 4 additional wins to be 13-18 that would be a decent start of the season l

Glad to see it's tough early. That will drive the attendence down right away.
The goal is to lose as many games as possible. Get the #1 draft pick. Embarrass Bob Nutting and fire up the locals.
