9th inning, after a pair of walk to Jim Cooney and Rogers Hornsby, Cards' Jim Bottomley lines to Pirate SS Glenn Wright who steps on 2B to double off Cooney and tags Hornsby on his way from 1B for the 3rd out.

Thanks for that, Bobster. I knew of Wright but not his full story. Too bad he had so many injuries. If healthy, he may have put up enough offensive numbers to get into the HOF.

Brings to mind Rennie Stennett whose leg injury ruined his career.

Yeah, Stennent is a good comparison. What a year he was having when he got hurt.

Great article. Speaking of Hack Wilson I had a chance to swing the bat that he used in his 191 rbi year. He broke it and gave it to a relative of a family that I knew. This would have been prior to his induction into the HF. I often wondered if that bat was given to HF.

Reminds me of a story Rennie Stennett told at one of the fantasy camps. He said after his 7 for 7 game the HOF asked for the bat. He said he gave them a bat but not the right one. He said they didn't know the difference and there was no way he was giving up a bat he just got 7 hits with.
