I was listening to this game, I have no doubt he did it on purpose. Murtaugh was very angry at him.

It's been reported that Ellis told his teammates prior to the game that he was going to so that. Supposedly because he didn't like that teams seemed intimidated by the Big Red Machine and he was going to do something about it.

As a 14 year old in 1966, I fell in love with Jose Pagan. Other than the World Series years, 1966 was my favorite season. The club was so good, with a line-up filled with great hitters. Pagan platooned at 3B and seemed to have one clutch hit after another. He's remained one of my all time favorite Pirates.

Big Poison, Little Poison, Dizzy, Daffy, Preacher, Three Finger, Oil Can, and the Flying Dutchman --- what great nicknames.  Never heard of Piano Legs but that is a great one too. 



Where are the great nicknames today?  How about Barry "The Splendid Syringe" Bonds, Yasiel " Middle Finger" Puig, and Carlos "Trash Can" Beltran?
