Can Players Opt Out Of Playing in 2020

I cannot recall, but I thought during the recent negotiations that there was talk that a player could opt of playing this season if they had some underlying condition. Also they could opt out if a family member had a medical condition, or if the wife was expecting. I think I read or heard that Nick Burdi’s and Brian Reynolds wives are expecting babies. I wonder if either or both will decide it would be in their best interests to not play this season.

They'll just wait for that 1500 dollar bonus to return to work.

I am reading this now-high-risk individuals are allowed to opt out and still receive salary and service time, but others who sit out will get neither. Doesn't specify what high risk is

If they want to opt out, all they need to do is test positive. They won't take the PR hit, if there would have been one. There is some amount of facetiousness in that suggestion.

Mike Leake, and a couple other Major League players have opt out of playing this season. So far no Pirate players have decided to opt out of playing this season, but it would not surprise me if a player or two decides to opt out before the Wednesday reporting date.

I think as of today about 9 players have opted out of playing this 60 game season. Each day you read about other players coming down with covid 19. I kind of wonder if there will actually be a season this year.
