Maile has a broken finger and will be out for approximately 10 weeks. He will probably miss the entire season.

Guess this opens the door for John Ryan Murphy. The Bucs may pick up another catcher when the better teams cut the minor free agents that couldn't land a spot.

Chris Herrman has requested his release from Tampa, and he may be a player the Pirates would want to sign for the taxi squad. When teams go on the road they are required to bring a catcher from their taxi squad just in case one of the catchers on the roster would get injured. Herrman is not a great hitter, but his defensive stats are very good.
