BC has signed JT Riddle as a free agent. Major league deal.

While he is 28 and has quite a few at-bats with the Marlins, frankly, I have no recollection of him.

MLB Trade Rumors notes that he also can play CF, although his prime position is SS. Not much with the stick.

JT Riddle bats lefty, while Maile, Osuna, Gonzalez, and Heredia all bat right. This probably means that Kevin Kramer and Socrates Brito will start 2020 at Indy.

Can't believe Riddle is the new starting CF. That's a bridge too far, even for the Pirates.

After signing Maile, who hit .151 last year, Riddle's .189 last year must have looked too good to pass up. :)

This is surprising sign. The Pirates have several candidates who can play middle infield positions. I don’t think Riddle is the candidate to play centerfield. With the 26 man roster the Bucs could carry the following 7 infielders, Bell, Frazier, Newman, Moran, Tucker, Gonzalez and Riddle. Possibly they may want to send Tucker to Indy, or maybe a trade of Frazier is being discussed which could reduce the infielders to six. It should be an interesting time before ST begins.

Does Kramer have any options remaining?

I knew the Bucs would make at least one major signing this off season.

I believe he has at least one more option remaining. Possibly maybe a team has inquired about him , and if he was traded they would bring in Riddle as infield depth.

Convoluted stat of the day: since 1890, Riddle has more games played (223) without stealing a base than any other player who has played 75% of his games at short or in center. Houston Jimenez is second at 158 games played. Cole Tucker is second among active players, with 56.
