1. Erik Gonzalez (R) SS

2. Cole Tucker (S) CF

3. Kevin Newman (R) 2B

4. Josh Bell (S) 1B

5. Jacob Stallings (R) C

6. Colin Moran (L) DH

7. Ke'Bryan Hayes (R) 3B

8. Adam Frazier (L) LF

9. Jose Osuna (R) RF

Chad Kuhl (R) SP

Shelty doing his best to screw up KeBryan's ML debut.  Bell at 1B and Moran at DH.  Osuna in RF.  There has to be someone on the roster who can play the OF besides Osuna.  Come on Shelty take off your dunce hat.

When McClendon was making bizarre decisions from the very beginning of his managing career, I thought it was just because he was new and that he would improve and become an average manager. But he never improved. It was unfortunately just the way his thought process worked.

I'd like to believe Shelton will stop being awful and improve to average. But nothing so far has suggested as much. I know they are treating this as a throw-away season. So we'll wait and see what roster moves BC makes next year and what managerial decisions Shelton makes next year. But I have more confidence that BC will start acting like a real GM than that Shelton will ever improve. I hope I'm wrong.

Ben Cherington is employed by the Pittsburgh Pirates. My confidence in him acting like a real GM anytime soon is quite low- for that very reason. He is employed by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Point taken. I should have specified a real GM working for the Pirates with all the limitations that entails. So far he has functioned like a janitor putting his feet up on an empty desk in an office late at night.

I often find myself trying to get excited about this year's rendition of the Pirates. But, even with the audition of the latest 'top tier' Pirate, I look at the line-up and simply sigh.

Thus, the question - when will we see real major league baseball in Pittsburgh again?

Hoping for a good debut by Hayes, and that Kuhl can go 6 good innings.

I was being facetious.  I truly believe that Shelton's over his skis.

Ben?  While I was excited to have a guy of his credentials join the team, I am far, far less so now.

It's not just his Cigar Store Indeginous American-like improvements to a clearly inferior roster that doesn't impress me.  It's a key part of his job that hardly anybody remembers that concerns me even more:

The coach hirings.  That OJT pitching coach shouldn't have even been given an interview, in my opinion.  Shelton?  Looks like Cherington did some pooch scrooing there.

And, the results follow.

Garbage in.  Garbage out.

Do nothing to improve.  Gaps grow.

And failing to get rid of Cora as 3B coach. That, and what I've seen so far of Shelton really concern me in terms of BC's judgment.

Wow it's hard to watch Bell with runners on base.  He just looks awful, don't think he's going to bring much, if he gets hot move him fast.

Today our utility infielder turned starting SS makes a key error. Yesterday our starting SS turned 2Bman made 2 key errors. And tonight we have 3 infielders in the OF. What a smart team this is, having everyone play out of position.
