hope he has one more good start in him to finish the season

have the entire off season to build confidence and BD energy off a great finish to his 2020 season to catapult him to a 2021 Cy Young season

I hope that he can build on this season, but I also remember thinking the same thing after Trevor Williams' 2018 season.

Great to see, but don't get too excited.

Trevor Williams looked unhittable for half of 2018. If he'd done it over a full season he would have been a Cy Young candidate. And he's never looked that good again.

I guess I should read other people's posts before I post myself.

It doesn't even have to be Williams like. It could be Brault like. Last year he had an extended period of great pitching. But in his last 4 starts he had an ERA of 11.29. All the Pirate starters have demonstrated a lack of consistency to an extreme level. From consistently good to consistently bad. That's been a huge problem from year to year. We can only hope Brault has turned a corner that others have not turned.

Totally agree. Keller, Brault, Musgrove and even Kuhl have displayed they are capable of quality starts. They all lack consistency. Next year's starting unit will be very young, assuming Brubaker is among the crew and even JT with limited experience due to injuries. I really think they need a good veteran who can show them the ropes and they can bounce ideas off them. Derek Holland doesn't count. I'm thinking whoever is the new AJB. His leadership on the mound was positive impact.

I think that is important. With all the talent Cole has, he reached another level with the Astros and attributed it primarily to advice he got from Verlander and Keuchel. Young Pirate pitchers are on their own. They have talent but no one to lean on for advice from a veteran's history of success. This year Pirate pitchers have mentioned consulting with Taillon for advice. Who else would they ask? But Taillon has only had 1 full season in MLB and would himself benefit from having a successful veteran to seek out for advice.

It's only 2 games I'll have to see much more to think this is the new Brault. I really hope he's figured out something but it's way to early to be pronouncing him our ace or even a 2 or 3.
