First Game ever I saw, Big Weenie took me to old Forbes Field for Photo Day.
Got to see four HOFers, one of whom was the great Joe Morgan, then of the NL Houston Astros.
The standard for second basemen for a very long time. Though a rival, he had my respect.

I know I am showing my age but I saw him at Forbes Field when he was playing on the Houston Colt 45's. Wonder how many posters remember that team? I remember saying to myself, why his he flapping his arm so much at the plate?

Because he and his teammates were our decade long arch-rivals, I was never a big Joe Morgan fan. But he was absolutely one of my favorite TV announcers. Joe was smart, polished, unbiased, and humble. He really had a sense of class behind the microphone. Seemed like a really good man.

I had a chance to meet Joe Morgan at a celebrity golf tournament. Such a classy guy. Loved hearing his stories on ESPN.

I was a kid who played Strat-o-Matic Baseball. It was always good to get Morgan on your team. He always seemed to enjoy playing.
I liked him as a broadcaster too.

Was with him on an elevator at Three Rivers Stadium about 30 years ago. First thought: "Oh My God, it's Joe Morgan!" He was shorter than I expected. It was a four floor ride. By the time I got up enough guts to talk, he was out the door.
A great second baseman. RIP

Hypothetical: say you're the Astros at the end of 1971, and you've put together a tradeable bundle of Morgan, Billingham, Menke, Geronimo, and Armbrister. The Reds have offered Lee May, Tommy Helms, and Jim Stewart. Could the Pirates beat that?
