ESPN ranked 6 Pirate prospects in MLB's top 100. That's pretty good when there are 30 teams and on average each would have 3 or 4 in the top 100. The others are Oneil Cruz (28), Nick Gonzales (66), Travis Swaggerty (79), Quinn Priester (87) and Liover Peguero (91). Peguero was acquired in the Marte trade.

I have a stupid question. If MLB goes on strike in 2022 (which I kind of hope it does), does that affect the minor leagues at all?

And if not, how does that affect the Pirates plans for bringing guys up? If you bring a guy like Swaggerty up late in the season could you then send him back down so he can play in the minors during the strike?

As far as I know the MLBPA does not represent minor leaguers. And when MLB had a lengthy strike in 1981, the minor leagues continued to play. Good question about optioning players. Since guys on the Pirates' roster would be under major league contracts, it would seem they were part of the union and could strike rather than be forced to play in the minors. I could see grievances being filed.

Hayes, IMO the only bright spot for 2021. I hope he lights it up.

If he picked up where he left off last year, the coaches need to prepare him to be pitched around. He's going to have to be really patient. It would be a great benefit to him if Reynolds and Newman return to their 2019 form and get on base a lot so that Hayes will see his share of good pitches.
