20 years today since TRS was demolished on February 11, 2001. I attended an early morning implosion party on Mt. Washington and had a great view. The Bucs won a championship during the TRS years but I never liked it as a baseball venue. Doesn't seem like it was 20 years ago already.

As a baseball park, I sure was happy to see it go. Walking into PNC Park for the first time felt so good after all those years of sitting inside what was essentially a structure shaped like a toilet bowl.

I went to the first game at TRS when I was 10, and thought it was so cool.

We moved away, came back when I was 16 and I realized it was not meant for baseball. It just didn't feel baseball.

I love PNC Park. I used to comment that it was interesting the Pirates got and absolute gem to put a lump of coal in, where the Steelers with all kinds of winning ended up in an erector set.

I have loads of fond memories of 3 Rivers Stadium. Not just Pirate memories but also many from the Steelers teams.

My dad had season tix to both teams and I made many friends with the ushers and other fans around us. I got used to wandering around the stadium during Pirate games to see the game from different angles. I also liked to go and stand above the bullpens for an inning or so. I go to watch the relievers warming up or maybe just screwing around until the bullpen phone rang. One of the funniest things I saw was that guys in the pen would hide behind the moveable seats and take a smoke.

As for the Stillers, there were a lot of exciting games and drunks making fools of themselves. The least pleasing experience during Stiller games was going to the men's room and having to wait in line outside in the freezing cold.

None of these experiences could take the place of going to both Pirate & Stiller games at Forbes Field though. The same goes with PNC park now. Give me PNC over 3Rivers anytime.

PNC has been around for 20 years, whereas the entire life of Three Rivers was 30 years.

And yet PNC feels brand new.

Maybe the lack of any significant memories makes all those years blend together?

If I remember correctly they opened 3 Rivers after the 1970 All Star Game on a Thursday night. I attended game 4 Sunday afternoon vs the Reds. I was 18 at the time, and thought the stadium was something with a large scoreboard, artificial turf etc. My late Dad would tell me,Three Rivers was not a baseball field like Forbes Field which he and I went to. I was fortunate enough to attend the opener at PNC Park, and thought to myself that Dad would have said “ now this is a ballpark.”

I had moved back in 1999, and was watching on TV at work when I was at Montefiore. I'll never forget over the next few days people trying to get hunks of the debris to sell as souvenirs. I seriously had to laugh, because how the heck could anyone tell where a hunk of concrete actually came from?

My dad used to buy the cheapest seats at 3RS on the rare occasions we went to a game, which meant upper deck. You needed binoculars to see anything from there.

Yeah, from the upper deck seats it felt like you were a mile away.
