Cubs fans that is. Yes, the long suffering, finally rewarded with a championship Cubs fans, are complaining about how cheap the owner is.

Anthony Rizzo was offered a contract in the neighborhood of 4/66, which is seen as an absolute lowball offer. They compare Rizzo to Goldschmidt, he of a 5/130 contract from the Cards.

First world problems, eh Pirates fans?

I remember on mlbtr comments from fans of the Dodgers complaining about how terrible their GM was (small market mind, etc) and how they truly wished he were gone. He didn't know anything about building a good team . . . etc. You just have to smile.

You don't even have to leave town to hear this laziest form of "criticism." The Steelers -- who haven't had a losing season since 2003 -- are of course led by the skinflint Rooneys who never spend any money in free agency and cheap out on the coaching staff and lowball players and blah blah blah. And that's in a league where they have a salary cap and much more fair revenue sharing.

To be fair to fans of Chicago and LA, those owners should be spending more. There's no limiting principle for the big markets to keep spending. Why keep up the charade? The faster they legitimize the de facto 10- or 12-team major league we have now, the better. It would, however, be nice to have a "Hicktown Series" at the end of the season to crown the AAAA Developmental League champion, though. The big markets will think it's cute. ESPN could send a stringer to cover it.
