I’m a proponent of honoring Jackie Robinson. Hopefully the great Roberto Clemente can one day be honored as well.

However I’m tired of having every player wear #42.

MLB can have the players wear a patch or something.

I want to see the real players name with their number.

I like the idea of keeping Clemente to ourselves. The national media didn't care that much about Clemente back when he played, so I say forget them.

Yes! Only MLB could figure out a way to make Jackie Robinson Day the one day of the season I don't look forward to watching games. Uniform numbers are not fashion statements. They are used to distinguish one player from another. I hate turning on the TV and not knowing who's pitching, batting or in the field until i see a closeup. At the very least they should have the player's name on the back if they all have to wear the same number. But better yet, have everyone wear their normal number with a "42" patch on the sleeve. The logic of honoring Robinson by making the game confusing escapes me.

And on the subject of uniforms, the NFL annoys me by having things like "Smith Sr" or "Jones Jr" or "Johnson III" on uniforms. The name on the uniform, like the number, is to distinguish one player from another. It's not to address the player's relationship to his family tree. We don't need to distinguish a player from his baby or his grandfather unless the baby or the grandfather are also on the team.  ;)

Why stop at everyone wearing #42? I think all teams should wear late 1940s-era Brooklyn Dodger uniforms on Jackie Robinson Day. The Giants would love that.

I don't care much for everyone wearing 42. I like he has a day in his memory, there has to be another way.

I don't want a day where the players all wear 21 either. It wouldn't be unique, even if everyone thought wearing 42 was a good idea. Come up with something original.

Clemente has seemed to gain a lot in the last decade by making the award named after him given more prominence in coverage, and the players like the award, you can tell it means a lot to them to win it.

I like the idea about patches, and paint the numbers on the field for their days of honor.

Case in point, when Clay Holmes went in to pitch, on the PNC Park scoreboard, they had Chris Stratton as pitching in relief initially. I didn't pay much attention to anyone warming up, I just knew Keller was going to be done soon. First thing me and the usher said to each other was, "Didn't he pitch a good bit last night?"

I went to an Orioles game a few years ago during "players' weekend." All the players had silly nicknames on the back of their uniforms. Even the scoreboard used the nicknames. And the uniforms were bright pastel colors with the numbers the same color and separated only by a thin black outline. As a result, the numbers were invisible and unless you knew each nickname you had no idea who was playing. I never did figure out some of the players I was seeing. MLB needs to use some common sense when it comes to uniforms.
