Looks like he will get the nod today in the rubber match against the Twins. Another good move by Cherrington here letting another young pitcher who they acquired this past offseason in the Bell trade start a series deciding game with a chance to get back to .500 after 22 games. A lot of good stuff from Cherrington this week so far. I like that he simply just got rid of the dead weight in both Alford and Fowler and didn’t let them hang around another month or longer, and that he called up Yajure to start the 2nd game of the Tigers DH. These are moves and scenarios that Huntington and the previous regime just would not have done.

So what this all means in the long run who knows, but so far it’s hard not to look at this entire month of April for the Pirates and not give them a B or maybe even an A- grade for all the positive things they have done both on and off the field. If you had told me on April 1st which was opening day that they would have a chance to go into the final week of April with a record of 11-11 after 22 games and do so without Ke’Bryan Hayes essentially that entire time nobody in their right mind would have come even remotely close to believing that would have happened. So let’s  hope it continues.

I agree Cherington knows what he is doing with this team. This past winter a lot of posts on this site and others criticized him for not signing free agent players, or for just doing very little. He has a plan for this organization, and I agree this team has surprised me so far this month.

Considering the train wreck that was anticipated, winning 10 of the first 21 is quite a surprise. I think most of us have expected them to sell off anyone with anything except for a handful of young players by the TDL. But I wonder now if BC will see the Pirates as being on the rise sooner than expected and stop the tearing down process. Maybe try to hold onto players like Moran, A. Frazier and Rodriguez.
