Oakland urged to explore relocation

So where do you see them going if it happens?

When the new CBA gets hammered out, I suspect with a universal DH probably on the way, so will be realignment and expansion.

If the A's don't stay in Oakland, I'm betting they move to Las Vegas. Ironic if that happens, no?

I think the Rays split season proposal is nuts. Just like in Oakland, there are some serious politics involved. I think they will move too. I'm guessing Charlotte.

When all is said and done, I think MLB will be 32 teams before the end of the decade, with teams in San Antonio, Charlotte, Nashville, and Las Vegas.

Oakland urged to explore relocation

I suspect this is just a political move by Manfred to help out Oakland's negotiations with the city. I would be surprised at a move. I did read the article at mlbtr.com (https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/05/ ... vegas.html). The suggestions there were Portland, Charlotte, Nashville, Montreal, Austin, and others. At this point MLB looks to be trying to consider regional groupings (and travel costs) so I would look more for a western city. With people moving south and west, Austin might make a good choice.

I agree with this being a political move, to offer the impression that MLB wants the 'best' for the A's.

In reality, I believe that MLB pressuring Oakland to move on a new stadium is preferable so that 2 new expansion teams can be created in the interested cities, inciting a bidding war, and creating more $$$ for MLB itself in the form of expansion fees.

I think MLB knows that to be successful long term, they look to cities that have a good number of Fortune 500 companies in the area. This is why Mo treal, for all its good points, probably won't get another team soon. Indianapolis has a lot more Fortune 500s than Vegas does. I won't be surprised it that's one being thought of. I'm thinking that North Carolina is being reserved for what is now the Rays. Don't underestimate "corporate presence."
