I know all GMs make moves like this, and I know that Cherington's looking for guys to fill-in or to see if any of these acquisitions can contribute in some way, but these moves are one reason why I've been having a hard time investing in this team over the past couple of years.  I know that all but maybe a handful of the players on the roster will be gone in two years.  It just hard for me to get excited by anyone who's here now.  It's like they're migrant workers, never to be seen again.

We don't need to see what we have.

If the team was competitive as they were from 2013-15 and was doing this revolving door dumpster dive, I would be very upset. But it's obvious that BC's plan primarily involves what's going on in the minors while the MLB squad is an afterthought. There is only a handful of current Pirates who will be here in another year or two when, hopefully, the team will make strides to improve based largely on what's currently in the minors. As fans, we don't have to like it or agree with it, but that's what's going on. So along the way, they are taking fliers on any number of unwanted fringe players just in case they can find someone who can help make this years team any less awful. It's only mid May and they already gone thru Alford, Fowler, Frazier and Stokes. Tom and this new guy may be next. I guess it's like a bad swimmer floundering in the water and grabbing for anything that floats by.

Agree. As much as I want to focus only on the major league club, it's the minor leagues where the important work is going on. Maybe as early as next year we'll begin to see a few players arrive who will contribute to the next competitive team, but I think it won't be until 2023 that we'll see the corp group arriving and hopefully showing they can win.

It’s time to install a revolving door in the Pirates clubhouse

There may not be a revolving door but in reality, the locker assigned to the guy leaving is probably the one being assigned to the new guy. So there is probably a "bad luck" locker that whoever is assigned to it doesn't stick around very long.
