Rumor That Cole Tucker Has Been Recalled

I saw one note that said Tucker was recalled, but I have not yet seen a verification from Pirates Post Gazette Beat Writer Jason Mackey. Jason Mackey just confirmed that Tucker was recalled.

I guess they wanted another bat in the lineup. He's hitting .214 in Indy. That would put him ahead of Gonzalez, Tom, Perez, Craig and Gamel. Right about now .214 vs AAA pitchers looks pretty good. :(

Perhaps Vanessa called Nutting and stated that she was tiring of dating someone who was playing at AAA.

Also, not clear what Tucker has done at AAA to warrant the recall. My guess is that he is scheduled to see some time in the OF, and that Tom will be discarded.

Cahill is probably headed for the DL so if they do that, they won't have to make another move until his turn to pitch rolls around again. By then competition between Tom, Craig, Vargas and Gamel for next off the roster should be fierce.

This is like a competition among three-legged chairs to see which one can hold Roseanne Barr.

Your explanation regarding Cahill seems more plausible.

That said, not having 14 pitchers on the active roster at all times and actually have 5 bench players may cause Shelton to start making a series of 'giddy' moves, such as pinch-hitting Vargas for Gonzalez, but then calling Vargas back and sending Tucker to the plate.

Hayes should return in early June from the 60 day IL. Also, Brault and Rule 5 pick Jose Soriano will eventually be coming off the 60 day IL. I wonder if this could be a last chance for Tucker to impress Pirate mgt. They're going to need roster spots and Tucker was barely making it in AAA. He certainly didn't earn this promotion.

Not that it really matters in the big picture, but I'd much rather have Stokes Jr. than Tucker.

I'm truly puzzled by the Pirates continued interest in Tucker. He's shown nothing to this point to suggest he has a future in baseball. If he's not recalled to play SS every inning of every game, I see no reason to have him up here. He's not an outfielder as far as I can see.

Your comment about this perhaps being his last chance to impress the brass is certainly a possibility. Could he also be up here because there's another GM who's expressed an interest in Tucker and wants to see him play at the major league level for some period of time before agreeing to a trade?
