Holy Crap, Shelty must have had a brain fart making out this lineup. Resting Hayes? Tell me why? Pooplanco batting cleanup? >:( Tom playing at all! Poor JT Brubaker had better pitch a no-no if he hopes to win the game. Sorry folks I am not going to watch or listen.

Shelton is pulling out all the stops to lose this one.

There’s no way with a line-up like today’s that I can be convinced that winning’s the goal.

Has the feeling of "already earned series split" kind of lineup..

On the bright side our pinch hitting roster is pretty good!

Molina continues his career-long beating of the Pirates. He can’t retire too soon.

Amazing how Molina is always in the lineup and Stallings who is much younger gets a rest. I guess Hayes at age 24 needs a rest as well. The averages of our 5 thru 8 are just laughable

At age 39 Wainwright is looking like his old self

Polanco just put a smile on Shedman's face. 2-1

Last Sunday the PG reported:

After the Pirates off day Monday, they will play 21 games in 21 days leading up until the All-Star break. That is the longest stretch of games without a day off they will have this season.

Shelton hinted that that may mean some planned games off for the Pirates’ regular starters, as they monitor workload for not only their pitchers, but some of the position players as well.

“We're going through our longest stretch of the year until the All-Star break, and we're getting into a territory where most guys are above the innings of where they were last year and we're about the games we played last year,” Shelton said. “So there's a lot of factors that will come into play, workload-wise, in the next 21 days.”

Ok, they counted wrong, it's 20 games in 20 days but they only missed it by 1. But for the rest obsessed Pirates, it's their rationale for lineups like today. Shelton's concern that players are now getting past the amount of games played last year seems misguided (like everything else about him, so what else is new?). Last year was the outlier. This year is the return to normalcy. This year featured the same conditioning and preseason that always got players through 162 games in other years. But the Pirates approach it as if they must be on the verge of exhaustion before the season is even half over because last year was only 60 games.

So we're going to see lots of rest for Hayes and anyone else who's valuable to the team and starts for AAA pitchers like Kranick tomorrow. Gotta have everyone well rested for the stretch drive. Not used to playing more than 60 games. ::)
