This is Bumgarner's 2nd start since returning from a shoulder injury. His previous start was very good. Could be a tough afternoon for the Bucs (aren't they all).

If Shelton managed the D-Backs Escobar would be among those resting today.

Kranick last pitched July 10th against the Mets in the second game of a double header, going 3IP 3ER and 70 pitches in the Pirates 4-2 loss. After being perfect for 5 innings in his first MLB start, he surrendered 4 hits and issued 3 walks in this outing.



Bumgarner last pitched July 16 against the Cubs, where he took the loss despite going 6IP and giving up 2ER in Chicago's 5-1 win. It was his first start after a stint on the IL.



This is Bumgarner's first time facing the Pirates as a Diamondback. As a Giant, he was 4-5 and one ND totaling 57.1 IP, surrendering 20ER, two of his losses came while surrendering just one run, an ERA of 3.14. I don't think I need to mention his postseason starts against the Pirates.

Shelton will be writing to the commissioner to report the AZ manager for making his catcher in a night game play CF the following day game. Shelton probably thinks he's witnessing a felony.
