Although I think the Dodgers will win, I'd like to see them lose. I'm not a fan of a one-game Wildcard scenario because baseball is a game best played in a series. I'd like to see the format changed to a three-game series and, if the Dodgers lose, they'll whine incessantly enough that MLB will look closely at adopting that format.



But most important, MLB will have missed out on the potential revenues earned by the Dodgers being on TV for three games instead of one. (Of course, when this happened to the Pirates a few years back, no one cared.) And if LA loses on the heels of the Yankees exiting after one game, the owners might institute a three-game playoff for 2022 by the end of this month.

Here we go again. It's "Game 7", not "one game."



If the Dodgers wanted to play in any series, all they had to do is find the way to win their division. They were given 56 opportunities to win the two games they needed to do it.

I agree. I can't think of any other sport where the personnel differs so significantly from one game to the next. Barring injuries, other sports can feature the same players every game. But in baseball, a 1 game playoff usually hinges on the starting pitchers. But even the best starting pitcher only participates in about 20% of his team's games. Depending on where they are in the rotation a team can be strong one day and weak the next. So you don't really get a sense of whether one team is stronger than another unless you play a series and get a sense of their overall pitching. I believe anything less than a 5 game series in baseball is inadequate.



Steve Carlton was arguably the best pitcher in baseball in 1972. He won the Cy Young with 27 wins and a 1.97 ERA, 30 CGs and 310 Ks. But the Phillies only won an additional 32 games and were 59-97 for the year. They had the worst record in the NL but were always the better team when Carlton pitched. A one game series would have favored the worst team in the league.



I hate to see a team eliminated when they might have been the better team but the opponent had one outstanding pitcher and didn't have to go beyond that.

Win the division...or, roll the dice.



That's the option.  Dodgers chose to roll the dice.



Division winners earn certain advantages; rightly so.



Do what it takes.  Respect those who did- the Giants.



I said the same thing when the Pirares fell short. 



This isn't on MLB.  It's on teams that don't win their divisions.  I dont care who they are.



I respect the Dodgers, but sell it to someone else.  I'm not buying.
