Stallings wins Gold Glove

Too bad that site we were on didn't pull the plug. A LOT of people over there who I told a couple years ago Stallings was a better catcher option than Diaz (ridiculed and banned over it too, what a group eh?). I would be rubbing this in so many faces right now.

Congrats Jacob! If ever there was an award for perseverance, you'd probably win that too.

I see that the Cardinals as a team won five gold gloves. As someone who likes to see defense, I take their team emphasis on defense (rightly or not) as a sign of why they always seem to do better than anyone expects.

Great for Stallings! From DFA'd 5 years ago to team MVP last year and now a Gold Glove.

Partially read my mind, Bob.  That should scare you if nothing else does.  ;)

Dave and Surg know that Stallings has never been among my favorites.  I've always thought of him as a guy who's nice to have, but not all that great shakes.  I like him, but only so much.

I have to hand it to him.  In addition to the point you remind us of, I'll add that, it couldn't have been the easiest of things for him to separate his personal life from his own performances.  His dad very well could have been the second-most disliked person in the Pittsburgh region.  It's also one thing for a loved one to be unpopular.  It's a lot different when that unpopularity is all over the place and can't be avoided.

It's easy for us to think of higher-profile professional athletes as "pieces," but they're as human as all of us are.  Some of us can set things like that aside.  Others have a much harder time.

We've won games with Stallings.  That's about as much as we can ask of a player.  It's not like we can turn our back on Wins.

Yes, for a minute I thought that Shedman had been reinstated. I certainly think Stallings deserved it

I just had to bring up Shedman! As you can see by the smilies I used that I was not being serious.

I do believe that Stalls does deserve the award. He is a guy who put his effort into becoming a great MLB catcher and from what the press is saying a great team leader.
