If you go to PNC, street side of the Honus Wagner statue and near the 1888 marker you will find my charity brick:

"Roberto Forever The Henderson's of Farmington Utah"

I know things are quiet here, but it's New Year's Eve and The Great One deserves a post.

For this lifelong Pirate fan it wasn't a happy New Year's Day for me either.

Very empty.

He was as great a man as he was player. Long live his memory and his legacy.

I got to see him play once, as a 6 year old, at Three Rivers. It was my first baseball game. It left a mark on me, but back home in CT, I didn’t see the Pirates any more until the World Series. Seeing the team and him there on TV made the Pirates my team for life and had me doing everything I could to emulate Roberto as I learned to play baseball. He would be my baseball idol. The tragic news of his death was my first real loss in life. And I learned to hold on to the memories of those we care about as it’s all we have.
