Well, the Dodgers have signed Tyler Anderson. No details as of yet.

With Anderson, Boyd, Greinke, and nearly every other potential starter signed elsewhere, it looks like the Bucs will need to go with what they have, or bring in someone like Wade LeBlanc (hopefully not).

Perhaps Brubaker and Keller will remember that there were once considered good pitching prospects and they can turn it around this year, or that Quintana suddenly rebounds. None of this is likely, but sometimes dreams resemble reality.

I now see where Anderson signed for an $8 mil guarantee with the Dodgers.

Perhaps this can be a rallying cry for Cherington --- You may sign with us on the cheap, but we will help you double your salary from your next team.

The Dodgers were probably paying for Anderson while he was on the Pirates anyway. They just cut out the middleman. Efficiency.

This actually is the reason 2nd and 3rd tier FAs sign with the Pirates. They sign 1-year contracts at modest salaries and get opportunities to revive fading careers or demonstrate they have recovered from injuries or establish a career after washing out somewhere else. Those are opportunities they can't get from ambitious, competitive teams. If the player fails, it's only on a team that wasn't going anywhere anyway and had nothing to lose by taking a flier on him. If the player succeeds, he increases his market value to attract a better landing spot either at the TDL or in free agency the following year.

The Pirates aren't ambitious or competitive? :)

Sounds to me, then, that Quintana didn't want to, or is unable to learn an Asian language and prefers not to drink Mexican water.

Is this what the club we love has turned into? For guys who want to stay in the game and playing in the U.S.?

Quintana came back from injuries in 2020 to pitch poorly in 2021. The typical Pirate signing of a guy trying to reestablish a career in MLB and getting that chance with the Pirates that most teams would not give him.
