I agree about the poor judgement by Cruz, but I am losing all confidence in Bednar. He cannot close out games any longer. This has been going on for over a year.

Dan Zangrilli: "This game felt like game #163 of 2024 didn't it?"

He is positively hammering the FO and Shelton. That was after bashing Cruz, but also bashing the fact he felt he should never have been moved from short stop, and he doesn't appear to have done anything in the offseason to learn the position.

It’s not just his poor judgment, it’s his aloofness, his unwillingness to play hard. It was a selfish play because he’s a selfish player.

There’s no way Cruz should’ve stayed at shortstop. A team trying to win would never allow it. Even the Pirates, who aren’t trying to win, wouldn’t let him do it.

I know I am over reacting because it is just one game. However we all heard about accountability, internal improvement, and the clock is ticking. The time to start winning is now. If I were Nutting I would have called Shelton and Cherington into my office and read them the riot act. The display today was frigging unacceptable period. No more leash. I would tell Shelton and Cherington that they better figure this out and have a plan in place or they will not survive April!!! Same with the players. Start performing or you can collect your paycheck sitting at home on the couch!

After an entire off-season to improve the team, the team pathetically assembled around Skenes is so bad that he can’t get a win even after a 4-1 lead. Gee, who could have known that dumpster diving wasn’t the answer.

I love your passion but, frankly, Nutting has no quarrel with what happened today. He let the entire offseason unfold as it did, improving the team not a wit. In fact, it’s been like this since 2016 so he’s obviously okay with it.

I made an edit on a word Jollyroger8 used. I get the frustration but let’s not go there.

We’ve known for years that Shelton and Cherington are grossly incompetent. They were allowed to retain their jobs this year, and even though it’s only been 1 game, their gross incompetence was again on obvious display. Ladies and gentlemen, your Pittsburgh Pirates. There is no excuse for these 2 to retain their jobs. One game of this season was one too many for them.

I get it. Nutting did nothing to provide the GM and Manager with better skilled options. But by the same token, we’re were told the accountability needs to come from improvement within. Even Cutch echoed that sentiment. I was encouraged by the results seen by Bae and Suwinski during spring training. However what we saw today was unacceptable from Major league ballplayers. I understand errors but what we saw was lackadaisical effort exhibited by half the team and that cannot be tolerated.
Ok I feel better now……..not really!
