Maybe Swaggerty hit so well in ST (.379, 3 HRs) that the Pirates started worrying about Super 2 status with him.

Who among us would be surprised by that? I know all organizations do this but the Pirates include this strategy in their mission statement.

Are there any rumors locally about moving Santana? There is local sports radio talk here in the Philly area of acquiring him to platoon at 1st base with Darick Hall in the wake of Rhys Hoskins injury.

When he was here before, he didn't do much average wise, but he did hit for power and had a good OBP. Despite that, they didn't waste any time dumping him at seasons end.

Thinking CSN over Suwinski, need players that can get on base.

The Pirates optioned infielder/outfielder Mark Mathias to Indy and reassigned infielders Drew Maggi and Chris Owings and RH reliever Tyler Chatwood to their minor league camp. Catcher Kevin Plawecki was told he won’t make the team.

Rich Hill replaced Brubaker and got toasted and roasted with a dash of cayenne pepper to spice things up. 7 runs on 11 hits in 4.1 innings. >:( >:( >:( >:(

While the amount of encouraging news out of spring training this year has been underwhelming, I am encouraged that Mathias (who the Bucs actually traded for this spring), Owens, Maggi, and such did not make the opening day roster. Time for Bae to show that he belongs on a major league roster.

Bae is a player I'm really hoping to see get a lot of PT.

I have a feeling, the Pirates get a Hot Hayes and Cruz to start off the season. Not much hope for Castro as a starter and think Nick is up quick.Really dont want to see Cutch until 5-6 spot.
