Personally, I couldn’t care less the pitchers can’t hit. In fact, that’s kind of the point of my position. I think having a nearly automatic out in the lineup actually makes the game more interesting. I like that pitchers have an almost built-in way to get out of a rally. I don’t like that an NL DH will almost certainly hurt the Pirates more than their opponents, putting us further behind the eight ball.

I’ve already said that I like the strategy no DH brings to the game. I like playing NL baseball the way it’s always been played. I think every single rule change MLB has used to try to make the game more exciting or whatever is a travesty. But the others like waving four fingers for an IBB, I could stomach. The three batter minimum is dumb, but tolerable. But the NL DH...that’s the hill I’m willing to die on.

Call me old fashioned. Call me a traditionalist. Mock me. Ridicule me. Whatever. I’m not changing my mind on this.

Whether a fan favors the DH or not, the Pirates are sure not to benefit from it. The team will simply use its fourth outfielder or back-up first baseman as the DH every night. Nutting will never agree to pay for a legit DH.

I thought that's what most teams were doing. I think I saw an article saying that within the last few weeks.

A lot of AL teams had gotten away from the concept of a one dimensional slugger for DH, preferring more flexibility as pitching staffs increased and benches decreased. But a 26-man roster may change that way of thinking as an extra roster spot could allow for a one dimensional DH without giving up a utility player.

We'll see if the Pirate strategy of never having enough utility infielders goes by the wayside with Ben C. as GM.

Somebody said U. L. Washington is working out.

That may well be the case, and I should have been more clear. The Bucs are hurt more than most teams also because they're 4th outfielder and back-up first baseman are not as good as other teams' 4th outfielder and back-up first baseman.

I don't want them to practicing hitting any more than I want to see position players practicing pitching.
Seems some of our guys have practiced pitching in the minors way to long. Pitchers only have so many pitches in their arms. It wouldn't hurt any of them to practice bunting, hitting anything to help their team. It doesn't hurt their pitching arm last I checked. But racking up worthless pitching in the minors does.

If that's the case, then judging by our impessive record, I'd say that they should spend more time on game film or something.

Has there been any word on this and other rules changes? I haven’t seen anything official. I’m so frustrated by these...I mean, I’m kind of at the point where what MLB does with these rules changes will determine if I stay a fan or not. There is not a strong enough word in the English language to describe how much I loathe the DH, but even that doesn’t come close to how much I can’t stand the extra innings and double header rules. Please tell me that these gimmicks aren’t here to stay. Baseball is perfect just the way it is. If something ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
