This is a good take by Jim Bowden, and I know he has more knowledge than me, but I still think signing a free agent like Grichuk or even Verdugo would be huge to the Pirates lineup. Many people aren’t excited about Spencer Horowitz because he doesn’t hit many homers, but I expect many doubles in the gap from him. Some writers have said Cruz could be a 30 30 player this season. If so that is huge! I don’t want a 37 or older player like a Tommy Pham, I am still hoping one of the two players I mentioned above will sign with the Pirates, or they trade for a player like Ward. I like the lineup if one of those three players are in it.
I found the post I made about a month ago. I guess I jinxed us when I said I don’t want a 37 year old player like Tommy Pham. Someone with the Pirates must read our site, and told the FO to go get Pham. I apologize for mentioning his name, maybe our Commissioner should suspend me from posting for a couple days.

At least Tommy Pham likes you now.

Just read Jason Mackey's article on Tommy Pham in todays Post Gazette
I read a comment from Adam Wainright where he said that Pham has no
tolerance for guys not playing hard and not giving their all.If that's the case,
I can't wait for him to climb up a step ladder and get in Cruz's face.

I too just read the Pham article by Jason Mackey, and he may just be the player this team needs. Let’s see a lot more hustle, and less base running blunders. This may be worth a handful of additional wins.

well at this stage of his career no other team thought he was worth $4 million. I don't think he will be able to do this unless he performs as a player. If he hits 200/270/340 slash line he won't be with team long and players won't listen to him. It also won't work unless Shelton and his coaches encourage him to do this. I do think intangibles make a difference but think they best rough off from players when it is the good players doing it.

Pham and Wainwright played together from 2014 to 2018 when Cards were a decent team.

I don't think expecting him to do what Russell Martin did is realistic. Even then in 2013 the Bucs had great years from Alvarez, Cutch, and Marte.

Perhaps I am seeing everything in a negative light in regard to this team but I am at the stage where it seems like everything that may be good with them is matched by something that goes wrong.

I saw the article. It’s a shame the Pirates have to import a 37-year-old declining player to get on his teammates when they fail to do the basics like run to first base. They should already have team leaders and a manager to do that. Now they have to add a .200-hitting OFer to do that. This team is a mess.

Post Gazette is reporting that our big acquisition Horwitz will not be ready for the start of spring training. He had a wrist injury that required surgery and he is still in a cast. Did the Pirates not do a complete physical before trading for him?
This is not acceptable!

And the surgery was to correct "chronic symptoms." It wasn't a new injury.
