The article says "The move to acquire Dickerson from the Pirates for international bonus allotments and salary relief proved to be a nice pickup for the Phillies"

Why does a team near the bottom of MLB in payroll need salary relief?

They did the same thing a couple years ago when they waived Nicasio to save about $600,000, which is chump change in MLB. It seems there must be a standing policy in the organization to have Nutting's bean counters figure out ways to save every possible penny.

I thought the Bucs were supposed to get a ptbnl too.  Salary relief is bad in this case as that means the Bucs got less than they otherwise would have.

I was also under the impression there would be a PTBNL. Salary relief only means they didn't have to pay his salary for the portion of the season after the trade. Which is normal. Just unbelievable that they operate this way. Anything to save a dollar.

Wow, an owner dissatisfied with losing. I wonder what that's like.

Barajas is their bench coach. He's just an interim manager.

Mad Dog Russo interviewed Rays GM Erik Neander.

It was kind of depressing hearing him talk about their future with Charlie Morton, Austin Meadows and Tyler Glasnow.

in return we got financial flexibility

Chris Archer

Erik Gonzalez

and hopefully a good pitching prospect (who is probably not as good a prospect as Baz).

This is why I am cheering for Tampa in the playoffs.

It might be the closest the Bucs get to a title in a long time.
