Mets get one back. 7-2 New York, Philly down to its last three outs.

Mets close it out, now just one win away from advancing to the League Championship. Who’d a thunk it a month ago?

Mets make a few members very happy. Hope there is no return to Philly.

They do have highest 40 man end of year payroll per Cots. I wonder how many people would have thunk that?

Not me. The easy assumption is that it's the Dodgers, Phillies, or Yankees. But two of those teams are one loss from being finished. I guess they just need to spend more.

Of the top 5 Payrolls, the Mets, Phillies, Yankees and Dodgers are still left. Houston rounded out top 5 but they are done.

The Detroit Tigers are only Playoff team under 100 million. KC is at around 125 million. We are only a mere 10 million below the Tigers.

It's easy to root for the Tigers, the underdogs. But the problem is, if they were to get to the Series, Nutting would say, "See, spending money and buying good free agents isn't necessary. We can win if our guys only play better." It would only serve to have him dig in his heals even more and continue to disregard the need to raise his payroll. If the Tigers get eliminated before the Series he'll say, "See, they spent more than we did and what good did it do them?" Either way, we Pirates fans are screwed.

It doesn't matter. He'll say that or something like it regardless. The thing we have to realize is, nothing is changing. Even if he fires the whole management team, he'll just hire another like it. There's no point in getting too worked up about it.

I have no illusions anything will change. I’ve said in another post that even his daughters, when they take control, will keep the status quo. But I disagree about getting worked up. I believe we (fans, media, the players union, corporate heads in the region) should embarrass him at every turn, should point out his horrible ownership as often as necessary. Nutting would love for none of us to get upset or angry over what he does. It would just make it easier for him to continue his grift.
