my first reaction was a swear word - okay a string of swear words. Even if he repeats what he did last year which isn't a given because of his age his 674 ops isn't helpful.

Do they go out of their way to scrape the very bottom of the barrel?

If you add the money being paid on Pham and Frazier the Bucs could have signed Randall Grichuk. My guess is that he didn’t want to come to the Pirates, and waited for a another team to contact his agent. The D Backs did, and the Pirates lost an opportunity for a better player. I blame our owner for the way free agents feel about the Pirates Organization.

I’m positive that is exactly what happened. The Bucs were linked to Grichuk for a long time. He simply did not want to come here and waited for another opportunity to open. I blame this not just on our pathetic win/loss record over the years but also on the publicity generated by how we screwed Tellez.
Pham had to wait until the end of April last year to get an offer. He probably jumped at the chance to sign early. So now the Pirates sign a player who is a bit of a malcontent with several outbreaks against other players including teammates. Way to go BC!
I would rather see who of Cooke, Palacios, JacKKK SuwinsKkkI could win the RF job. Maybe Endy Rodriguez can impress.

Pham is a 37-year-old FA leftover coming off a lackluster season just glad to find a team that will pay him and probably give him a lot of playing time. He was likely hoping for a better destination than the Pirates but you take what you can get. Typical Pirates FA signing.

You try [edit] to focus on the young players who they have to move up and play, and how it's progress just not to have Grandal, Tellez, or Taylor on the roster. Then they do something like this.

signing players like Pham and Frazier just demonstrates the farm system isn't as good as the Pirates want us to think it is.

I usually don't care one iota what they pay a player but this, and the Frazier signing, is the stupidest waste of funds by an owner who goes on and on about having no money and being forced to watch every nickel. Seriously, Bob, just cut the payroll by the same amount you're paying those two and stop embarrassing the organization any more than it already is.

Paul Skenes should place a call today to Bob Nutting and tell he's not reporting until the organization becomes as serious and dedicated as he is.
