Dates of Bryan Reynolds, Carlos Santana, and Ke'Bryan Hayes' last home runs, respectively.

That is just sadder than sad.  I'm serious.

And, wasn't that Hayes' only home run?  I expect more from my third baseman.  I just do.  IDGaRA about his darned defense.

I expect more from Bryan Reynolds, too.

Yes, and it was at Coors. Still counts in the stat sheet, but there's an asterisk by it.

I will repeat: anybody have any GOOD news? This is bad.

By some incomprehensible way, if the season ended today, the Bucs would STILL be in the playoffs.

Great news! Makes me smile.

And, laugh!

Well, no mention of Cincy, didn't really lavish him with Cy Young type of talk.

Looked pretty PO'd, like, "I know that you know that I know what you're going to ask. And we already know the answer."

Yet, they still asked the question, about what it's going to take to get the offense going.

For those who didn't see it, he said Palacios thought he had a hit, and that it wasn't an effort issue on his part.

Okay, that's a nice way of saying he's maybe not too smart.

Tell you what. If you banished me to Altoona, I'd put the curse on you, too!

Why can't they hit?

1B Santana: never a good hitter for average but once an impact power hitter. Now 37, still a low average and the power is gone.

2B Bae/Castro: Bae is a slap hitter. Gets a lot of infield hits but seldom drives the ball. Castro: A .250ish hitter with modest power.

3B Hayes: Good glove, weak bat. After hitting a stupefying .376 in 85 ABs on 2020, he's batted .247 since. If pitchers made adjustments to him, he didn't adjust back. He's a low average, low power batter.

SS Marcano/Owings/Castro: Marcano looks serviceable. Nothing more. Modest average, little power. Owings doesn't hit. That's his history after 11 years. Castro: see 2B.

LF Reynolds: A legit hitter. He's the only one.

CF Suwinski: power but chronically low BAs, which document how infrequently he gets hits.

RF: Joe/Andujar/Palacios: Joe is doing surprisingly well. He must have needed to rest today after an exhausting off-day yesterday. Andujar hasn't hit since his rookie year of 2018. Palacios couldn't hit for the Blue Jays or Nats. Surprise!!!: he can't hit for the Pirates.

DH Cutch: Now 36 and on the decline. Has averaged .243 since 2018. Still a .240ish hitter with some power which makes him a top hitter on this team.

C Hedges: In 9 years has established himself in the elite group of players known as the worst hitters in MLB. Delay: has become either fantastically lucky this year or has significantly improved his hitting ability. In either case, he usually sits so that Hedges can go 0 for 4.

We're waiting/hoping for them to start hitting. But there's precious little reason to expect that to happen. This is the roster that's been assembled.
