Certainly not a better team at this point. Saved some cash.

Looked this way, it doesn't look bad. Not great, but not bad either.

Niese was done. He was awful. Liriano was awful too. People wanted to keep Liriano in hopes he turned it around (me included) and be part of the rotation next year. It sucks losing Melancon, but very good return for him and have guys to replace him already.

I agree with your summary except for Ramirez.

Ramirez was going to be traded at some point. There's no room for him in the future OF. However, not as a throw in. I don't get that one.

Liriano for a guy that isn't really proven and been in the minors most of the year.

Ivan Nova isn't doing much and is a free agent after the season.

Melancon trade makes sense.  I didn't mind it even though I am a big Melancon fan.

Niese for Bastardo is a good move in general.

Were the Pirates buyers or sellers?  I really don't know.

We are 1 game over .500. We just got rid of our two worst starters.

Why not mix it up and see what can happen. Theoretically, the offense is what is killing us, so maybe they catch fire and pitching doesn't matter.

MLBTradeRumors is suggesting that there is more coming back to the Pirates in the Liriano deal.

I agree. And, nothing they've done so far affects next year other than adding Hutchinson and Rivero.

Hutch has had some success in the past at the MLB level.

I think these move were a purge and attempt at a jumper cable Change of scenery jolt hoping to coach lghtning in a bottle for the last 60 games with very long odds

Haha. What a disaster. Liriano and Ramirez for nothing.

All about dumping salary. Niese was getting bought out so getting anything for him is fine.

Trading Frankie and Ramirez for peanuts like that is a crime, theft. . But someone will be along shortly to explain how it Hutchinson is good and just needs Searage

These 3 players yet to be named in the Yanks and Jays trades may be players who are eligible to be added to the roster this winter. They can only normally add about five players to the roster so rather than leaving a few players eligible for the Rule 5 draft they have used them as trade chips.

Adam Berry now reporting that Hutchison is the only player coming back in the deal.

Giving up Liriano and Ramirez to dump $13 million next year and get some SP depth.

That deal is an embarrassment. A laugher.
