Cherington's plan is working perfectly: build a roster that can lose more games than the other 29 teams in order to get that first draft pick. So far, it's working. Now, the rest of the plan better be to begin seeing progress next year with the players he's acquired, with the goal to reach the playoffs by 2023.

I have seen Girl's Softball teams execute the run down better than that
