That's the spirit! Trade 4 runs for an out!

Mears came in with a 2.09 ERA, but we know that's not an accurate measure of his ability.

Now that he's cleared the bases of all of Oviedo's folks, he has them loaded to start raising his ERA

Yeah, if they think he has something, he needs to work it out somewhere else. IDK the Rule 5 procedures, but offer him back, cut him, if they think they can get him through everything then let him work it out at Indy
He can be waived. But I think they believe he has enough potential to keep him. The season is meaningless for them anyway and there's only 2 months left. So I think he'll continue to struggle and then next year they can put him in the minors. Probably Altoona.

The problem this year is that the rule 5 guy is usually the last pitcher on the staff and used as little as possible and in low leverage situations, but the Pirates have several other pitchers who should only be used that way.

Is the bullpen showing today a glimpse of what’s to come over the final two months? Scary thought.

That's how you keep a nice ERA. Come in, let all the runners score you inherited before you go to work

Just these particular guys. The white flag went up when Ponce was the first one out of the pen.

Can't pitch the competent ones everyday.

Park will get another AB at least. I missed his double, hope it's in the hilites, what little there are for the Bucs

Stratton, Bednar and Shreve are the only ones not likely to implode on any given day. And none of the starters are likely to pitch well, much less go more than 5 innings. So that's a lot of innings for a very weak BP to cover.

He pulled a line drive to the RF corner.
