I'm thinking it is going to be over 70 wins. I'd say it's between the 71 to 75 win predictions.

Because I know you might be, and I know others are, at least thinking about this. So here goes:

They have a game in hand against the Padres. Win that, and stay pace with them, the Pirates own the tie breaker against them.
Next in their sights would be Miami, and they'd need a lot of help being 6 back. However, the Bucs have three more against them, and a sweep would give the Pirates the season series and the tiebreaker.

Next, are the Reds, again the Pirates need help, and they have 3 remaining against them. If the Pirates win at least one of the games, they hold the tiebreaker over the Reds, but realistically they'd probably need a sweep.

Then you have the duo of Arizona and San Francisco, and there would not only need to be a lot of help, but the Pirates have to finish ahead of both outright, as those two hold the tiebreaker over the Pirates.

So two teams they need a little help and can help themselves, and two teams they need a lot of help and then some.

26 games remaining....if they have an Aprilesque finish and go say 20-6, it could happen.
Arizona: 7 vs Cubs, 2 vs Giants, 1 vs Orioles, 3 vs Astros, but....3 vs Rockies, 4 vs Mets, 3 vs Yankees, 3 vs White Sox. This looks like 84 wins for Snakes.
San Fran: 3 vs Cubs, 2 vs AZ, 7 vs Dodgers, but....7 vs Rockies, 4 vs Padres, 3 vs Guardians. This looks like 84 wins for the Giants.
Reds: 1 vs Cubs, 3 vs Mariners, 3 vs Twins, but...6 vs The Loo, 3 vs Tigers, 3 vs Mets, 2 vs Guardians, 3 vs us. Looks like 86 wins and a WC.
Marlins: 3 vs Dodgers, 3 vs Phillies, 7 vs Brewers, 3 vs Braves, but...1 vs Nats, 6 vs Mets, 3 vs us. Looks like 80 wins.

So yeah, playoff chances are pretty much nil, considering even an unreal run would require substantial help. I think if the Bucs somehow manage to climb near 80 wins, that would just be wonderful.

21 to go as of today. They should get into the 70's just not sure how deep.

This should get interesting going down the stretch!

The Bucs have made a habit of beating fellow losing teams this season. I can't see them losing more than two against the Nats. They have played the Yankees pretty tough last couple of years, so the familiarity of them has them not in awe of the Bombers, I can see them easily taking two there.

All those other games remaining are against teams in playoff pushes. Cubs are trying for the Division. The Reds and Marlins as of right now are fighting for the third wild card spot. The Phillies may be the only team that could have the luxury of "looking past" the Pirates, as they will probably have a playoff spot locked up by then, maybe even the first WC, which gives the home field.

I see the Pirates taking 2 from Washington, Yankees, Reds, and Marlins. I see them taking 1 from the Phillies and Cubs.

The Pirates are going to finish 76-86. Book it. *****
