Here's the thing, this franchise will NEVER be competitive as long as it's willing to go into a season with ZERO legitimate major league starters. ZERO. Every day we send a No. 5 or No. 6 starter to the mound, and it's just ridiculous. Everyone of our starters is the same ... complete mediocrity who would be LUCKY to be the No. 5 starter on a good team. If the Pirates are serious about ever contending again, then Ben's No. 1 priority should be to collect an abundance of elite arms and then hope a small percentage of them pan out. And it wouldn't hurt if we'd sign 1 or 2 LEGITIMATE free agent pitchers each year, which of course we'll never do.
