My GOG games to Shelton. There was no reason to bench his best player (Hayes) for one of his worst (Riddle). And as always, there is never a reason to play Bell at 1B while Moran DHs. Both messed up on defense and it gave KC a quick 4 run 1st inning lead that should have been 0-0. The game was over at that point. Obviously Kuhl was awful but it doesn't help a pitcher when he's 4 runs behind after 1 inning when it should be 0-0.



I understand treating this meaningless mini season as a training and evaluation session. But there is nothing more to be learned or gained by putting Bell at 1B or Riddle at 3B. Those are just moves because Shelton likes playing manager and making moves. He may be a nice guy and the players may like him but I believe he is unsuited to manage. There is no excuse for some of the incredibly stupid things he does.

My vote for GOG goes to Cherington. The team he has assembled just can't win against major league ball players.
