I see where the Washington Nationals released Matt Hague from the minors today. I always thought that he had a chance to be a decent reserve 1st and 3rd baseman. As he is now 32, he could be nearing the end of his career.

I was excited when he was drafted by the Bucs, then Boras declared the signing was after the midnight time period. Pedro had a couple good years with the Pirates then his defense became deplorable and now DFAd . I had hopes he would have become our big home run slugger for many years.

I can see it now: Our friend Dogknot lobbying for the Bucs to claim him and insert him in the lineup! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hey Dog, couldn't help myself. To bad the Pedro has gone down hill this much since he broke in with the Bucs.

Pedro was never a good hitter. He was always a poor hitter with power. Even in his 36-HR season, he batted .233 and whiffed 186 times. But his fielding became so bad the Pirates didn't want to put him on the field. Remember the WC game when S-Rod started at 1B and Pedro didn't enter until his turn at bat came? He played himself out of the NL but even most AL teams no longer carry a pure DH if he can't play anywhere in the field. The Orioles gave him a chance but they always have a lot of HR hitters so they didn't have to put up with Pedro's inability to play the field and his weak batting other than the HRs. They've got too many of those guys already. Maybe Japan is the answer for Pedro.

Enny Romero DFA'd. They tried it before but he said he was injured. So they waited til he's healthy and DFA'd him again. Maybe it'll stick this time.
